Kevin Kynock was a devoted follower of the Bard. He spent time as a fellow at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Each fall at Boston College High School, he staged a Shakespearean play for his theater students. With their ability to have large casts and few female roles, they were an ideal inclusive introduction to theater each year. When Kevin passed away in 2007, a group of his former students pooled their money to put Kevin’s name in the program. Each year, more former students donated and contributions to the largest free Shakespeare performance in Boston grew.
By 2018, the support had grown so large that the Kevin C. Kynock Foundation for the Arts was formed. In that year, a formal relationship was created between the two organizations and support from the Kynock Foundation goes to support the apprenticeship programs at the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company. We are proud to continue to support free Shakespeare in Boston and young artists who have the opportunity to learn from experienced Shakespearean performers and directors.
